Arul Anandar College, Madurai, India

Arul Anandar College, located in a serene rural hinterland in Madurai District in the State of Tamil Nadu, INDIA, is the pioneer in the field of higher education for rural students who hail from poor and the most disadvantaged sections in neighborhood villages. Founded in 1970, it is a religious minority institution administered by the Jesuits who are well known for their educational services world over. Affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University, it was one of the young colleges in Tamil Nadu to become autonomous in 1987 by the University Grants Commission, Government of India, and the Government of Tamil Nadu. In recognition of its student-cum-community-centered innovative academic and extension programmes it was accredited with the most coveted Five Star Status by NAAC Government of India, in 2001. Quality enhancement and sustenance being the hallmark of this institution are further proved during the second and third cycles of reaccreditation, the college received ‘A’ Grade with an upgraded CGPA of 3.52 and 3.66 in 4 point scale, in 2008 and 2014 respectively. Holistic development of rural communities through socially relevant, technologically updated rural higher education is the perceptible essence of its social mission. The postgraduate departments of Economics, Rural Development Science and Physics have been recognized by Madurai Kamaraj University as approved research centers leading to Ph.D. degrees. This institution aims at molding students as citizens for others, in word, spirit and action.
